Cappadocia sits at 1,100 m, so it has four real seasons. This hub tells a Gulf traveller which one fits the trip they have in mind, month by month.

Cappadocia has a cold, snowy winter from December to February and a dry, sunny summer from June to August, with mild months either side. For a Gulf traveller the choice is simple. Winter for snow and empty valleys, spring and autumn for reliable balloon mornings, summer for long days and school holidays.

Winter: December to February
Winter is the season Gulf families ask us about most, because snow on fairy chimneys is the picture they have seen. Daytime highs sit around [to verify: December to February average highs, mgm.gov.tr] and nights fall below freezing. Balloons still fly, but wind and fog cancel more mornings than in any other season.

Spring: March to May
March is still cold and can still snow. April and May are the sweet spot: green valleys, daytime highs in the high teens to low twenties, and calmer dawns that favour balloon flights. Crowds build from mid-April and Eid al-Fitr, when it falls in spring, fills the cave hotels in Göreme and Uçhisar.
Summer: June to August
Summer here is mild by Gulf standards. Highs are usually below 30 °C, but the sun at 1,100 m is strong and the mornings start early. Days are long, valleys are dusty, and the towns are at their busiest in July and August. The summer guide explains early starts, pools and Eid al-Adha crowds.
Autumn: September to November
September and October are the second sweet spot. Skies are clear, dawns are still and the vineyards around Ürgüp turn yellow. November is the quiet month: cooler, greyer, and often the month of the first snow on the high ground around Uçhisar.

What the desk suggests
If snow matters, come between late December and mid-February and give yourself four nights so a cancelled balloon morning has a backup. If the balloon flight matters more than snow, come in May, June, September or October and three nights is enough. If the school calendar decides for you, book the cave hotel first, because the family suites for five sell out before the flights do.
