Dubai to Cappadocia: flights, airports and travel time

Cappadocia is reached from the UAE in two ways: a flight to Kayseri (ASR) or Nevşehir (NAV), then a road transfer of 40 to 75 minutes. Which airport is closest to Cappadocia?

Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport is the closer one. It sits about 30 km from Göreme and the drive takes 40 minutes. Kayseri Erkilet Airport is about 75 km away and the drive takes 75 minutes on a dual carriageway.

Are there direct flights from Dubai?

Direct flights from Dubai to Kayseri exist in some seasons, but they are not a daily service and the timetable is published late. [to verify: which airlines, which days, for the coming winter] We will update this line when the winter schedule is confirmed by the airlines.

What you can rely on all year is the one-stop route through Istanbul. Emirates, flydubai, Turkish Airlines, Air Arabia and Pegasus all fly the Gulf to Istanbul several times a day. From there Turkish Airlines and Pegasus fly to Kayseri and Nevşehir.

Is it better to fly via Istanbul?

For most dates, yes, and it can even be pleasant. Istanbul Airport is a two-terminal-free building, so a domestic connection means walking to another gate, not changing terminals. Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian side is the Pegasus and some flydubai base and is a little smaller and quicker.

The connection you want lands in Cappadocia in the early afternoon. That gives time to reach the hotel, see the valley in daylight and sleep before the 05:00 pickup. A late-night arrival works too, but the first morning is then lost to sleep.

How long is the transfer from the airport?

These are our drivers' times on a normal day. Snow adds 15 to 30 minutes in January and February; the roads are cleared, but we drive slower. A private car meets you at arrivals with a name board, which matters at Kayseri late at night when the taxi rank can be empty.

What time should you land for a sunrise flight?

Land the day before. The balloon companies collect guests between 04:30 and 05:30, and the civil aviation authority confirms the flight only at dawn. A traveller who lands at 01:00 and is collected at 05:00 will fly tired. If the morning is cancelled for wind, a one-night stay leaves no second chance.
